Located in the northwest corner of Nepal bordering with Tibet, the district of Humla is one of
Nepal’s hidden gems and home to rich cultural and ecological diversity and has significant ties
with two sacred pilgrimage sites: Mount Kailas (Kang Rinpoche/Tise) and Lake Manasarovar.
Trekking was allowed to tourists in the mid-1990s with special restricted area permits. Since
then, Humla has been the gateway to Mount Kailash in Tibet. Today it is one of the ultimate
trekking dreams for hikers and those who wish to discover the unique natural and cultural
landscape of Tibetan Buddhists.
