Civil servants scaling Everest felicitated

Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal on July 12 felicitated nine civil servants who reached the summit of Mt Everest this spring. He also handed over letters of appreciation and Rs 200,000 each to the civil servants.

Khanal also honored 15 climbing guides and team leader Home Secretary Lilamani Poudyal. The government had recalled Poudyal before the expedition made final push to the summit.

Speaking on the occasion, Khanal said economic prosperity could be achieved by developing tourism with protection and promotion of tourist sites.

The civil servants, who were successful in climbing the tallest peak on earth, include Subir Shrestha, Sanat Kumar Maharjan, Hari Dhakal, Tulsi Ram Bhandari, Hari Prasad Guragain, Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha, Suraj Pokharel, Padma Bahadur Bhandari and Khim Lal Gautam.

Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma said the successful Everest summit by the civil servants would contribute a lot in the promotion of mountain tourism in Nepal.
